Leeds United are showing no signs of slowing down in this summer’s transfer window.
The Whites have already welcomed six new signings but are now aiming to pull off one of their boldest moves yet.
According to Fussball Europa, Leeds are looking to hijack a move for Brazilian winger Igor Paixao, who had reportedly already agreed to join Olympique Marseille.
The 25-year-old was one of the standout performers for Feyenoord last season, racking up 16 goals and 14 assists in Eredivisie. He also scored twice and chipped in with five assists in the Champions League.
Paixao appeared to be on his way to France after weeks of negotiations. However, Leeds have now thrown a spanner into Marseille’s plans.
The Premier League newcomers have reportedly submitted an initial bid worth €35 million (£30m), with further bonuses potentially pushing the fee closer to Feyenoord’s €40m valuation (£35m).
That bid trumps Marseille’s final offer of around €30m (£25m), which wasn’t enough to convince Feyenoord to do business.
After submitting multiple bids and failing to meet Feyenoord’s demands, Marseille seem to be stepping away, paving the way for Leeds to finalise a deal.
Paixao wants the move to Elland Road. The Brazilian is reportedly ‘enthusiastic’ about playing in the Premier League next season.
Personal terms are not expected to be a problem, so the final decision now rests with Feyenoord. Leeds have a long-standing interest in Paixao.
If a deal is agreed, Paixao will be the club’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window. Although if the deal isn’t finalised on time, that position could go to goalkeeper Lucas Perri.
The Peacocks have already agreed a deal to sign the Brazilian keeper from Olympique Lyon.
Perri’s statistics show that he has been consistent over the past couple of years, which has convinced Leeds that he’s the ideal candidate to become their first-choice goalkeeper next season.
