Chelsea have been linked with Joao Pedro for a while, but it’s still slightly surprising that they’ve signed him so soon after also signing Liam Delap up front.
They have a lot of players they’re ready to sell throughout the team, but they must be confident they’ve got exits lined up for a couple of them at least consider bringing in the Brazil striker for a fee reported to be over £50m.
Nicolas Jackson speaking about his development as a player.
Nicolas Jackson is not one of the players you’d think of immediately – the likes of Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix would be first – but the Senegal striker has had a few links with moves away, and yesterday a new exclusive from Football Insider claimed that Aston Villa are interested.
The link they note is Villa manager Unai Emery, who gave Jackson his breakthrough at Villareal.
We do think Jackson would be available this summer – but only in the same way that any player in this squad would be available. Chelsea would have to be offered enough money to make it worthwhile, and it’s impossible to see Villa doing that at this moment.
We paid £32m for Jackson just two years ago, and unless we’re going to make a big profit on that, it’s not a deal we would do. You’d have to think £50m would be the lowest fee we’d consider.
That’s too rich for Villa, even before you even consider their PSR issues.
Sadly for those Chelsea fans who are sick of Jackson, we think it’s highly likely that he’s back at Stamford Bridge next season – and indeed back in the team for our game on Friday night against Palmeiras.
