Real Madrid’s midfield crisis was not one many saw coming. After all, the middle of the park is Los Blancos’ strongest suit on paper as the manager has endless resources to count on.

The past month, however, has been unfortunate for the men in white as they have lost midfielder after midfielder to injury. One such player who has been ruled out for over a month is Dani Ceballos.

Future away from Madrid

While Ceballos is recuperating to be available earlier for Carlo Ancelotti, it is no secret that the player has been eyeing an exit for a long time now.

The Spaniard even pushed for a departure earlier this summer with Real Betis and AS Monaco tightly linked with a transfer. In the end, however, the player stayed in the Spanish capital but his future appears to be in the air once more.

Now, as revealed by AS, Real Betis will return in January to sign Ceballos. They failed to secure the dream homecoming in the summer owing to financial constraints but will not face the same issue in the winter.

With William Carvalho out injured for the long term, Los Verdiblancos now have space on their roster to fill. They even have more money to complete the deal and it will be difficult for the men in white to retain the Spaniard.

Needless to say, the transfer will ultimately depend on the player’s and Real Madrid’s stance come January.

Ceballos, for his part, should complete a full recovery by the winter transfer window and will thus be available for a transfer. Moreover, he has never seen a return to Betis with bad eyes.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, should recover the services of Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni and boast of a full-strength midfield once more. Ancelotti, thus, may not protest Ceballos’ departure.
