Kosovare Asllani has revealed that Sweden have a plan for England and do not fear the Lionesses ahead of their Euro 2025 quarter-final clash.
The two sides will meet on Thursday night at the Stadion Letizgrund in Zurich.
It is a rematch from their semi-final meeting at the same competition three years ago, where England thrashed Sweden 4-0.
England recovered from their defeat to France by scoring 10 goals across their two games against the Netherlands and Wales.
Sweden took maximum points from Group C after beating Germany 4-1, and hold the best defensive record in the competition.
Sweden captain Asllani, who plays for WSL side London City Lionesses, spoke to the media ahead of tomorrow’s game.
Kosovare Asllani says Sweden will be ready to take on England at Euro 2025 after analysing their opponents ahead of Thursday’s quarter-final.
She said: “We respect England and their way of playing and what they’ve shown so far in this tournament. We have a plan to tackle that.
“Fear? No. We don’t have the word fear in our dictionary. We look up the word courage.”
The London City Lionesses star added: “We have an incredible belief in one another and the entire team. We do play very intense and physical football and since Peter [Gerhardsson] took over as coach that has developed us and we have developed massively over the past few years.
“We’ve got a lot of players who play at major clubs in Europe and you mesh it together sometimes. We’re a very hungry side and we want success.”
Sweden are not seen as one of the tournament favourites despite being unbeaten so far in Switzerland, and reaching the semi-finals of the last three tournaments.
Asllani said that people should talk about Sweden more, but flying under the radar suits them.
She said: “I feel like Sweden is always flying under the radar and that is something that suits us. We believe that we are one of the best teams in the world due to the results, but people barely speak about us.
“We know we can beat any team in the world at our best so we don’t think about it too much but people should talk about us more.”
According to the UK’s best football betting websites, Sweden are underdogs in their Euro 2025 quarter-final clash with England.
At the time of writing, they are priced at 23/10 to beat England in regular time. The Lionesses are 1/1 favourites while a draw – which would take the game to extra-time, and potentially penalties – is available at 15/8.
