A headline member of the attacking ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona could be forced to sit out the club’s opening fixture in the defence of their title.

That’s according to journalist Xavi Hernandez Navarro, who points towards Robert Lewandowski as the player in question.

Frontman Lewandowski, for those who may have missed it, set alarm bells sounding in Catalunya’s capital earlier today.

This came upon confirmation coming to the fore that the Pole has been ruled out of this weekend’s Joan Gamper Trophy match.

As per a statement released across Barcelona’s social media platforms:

‘The first team player Robert Lewandowski has a hamstring problem in his left thigh. The striker is unavailable for Sunday’s game and his recovery will determine his return.’

As alluded to above, though, Sunday’s Como clash may not be the only one which Lewandowski is forced to sit out.

As per a report from Xavi Hernandez Navarro:

‘At the club, they assure that Lewandowski’s discomfort could mean two weeks out.’

If this proves to be the case, the former Bayern Munich man would also be unavailable for Barca’s La Liga season opener against RCD Mallorca, on August 17th.
