Younger Bellingham brother has picked up a yellow card
Jobe Bellingham and older brother Jude Bellingham have been denied a reunion at the Club World Cup as Borussia Dortmund face Real Madrid on Saturday.
The 19-year-old Jobe, who recently moved to Germany from Sunderland. picked up his second yellow card of the tournament in Dortmund's 2-1 win over Monterrey on Tuesday.
Jobe will now have to watch from the sidelines, and Dortmund manager Niko Kovac revealed his new signings’ reaction to the missed opportunity of facing his brother for the first time as professionals on opposing teams.
“Okay, he's young. His brother is also young, so I'm convinced they will face each other, maybe next season in the Champions League, and then the future. The future is for them," Dortmund manager Kovac said.
“And yeah, the Club World Cup would be nice, but now it isn't. Someone else must play for him, but it's also okay.
"I think he did not exactly know that the second yellow card is a suspension at halftime. He was a little bit surprised."
Jobe completed a £27.8million a transfer from newly-promoted Premier League club Sunderland in June.
The midfielder has chosen to follow in the footsteps of his older brother by favouring a move to Germany as opposed to playing in the Premier League , a move Jude made when he switched from Birmingham to Dortmund in 2020.
Jude played for Dortmund from 2020-2023 before making the switch to the Santiago Bernabeu in a deal that could rice to £115 million.
