Samuele Ricci is the dream signing for Inter Milan in holding midfield, but the price tag could be a stumbling block.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They also note that AC Milan will be a major competitor for Ricci’s signature.

Inter Milan are likely to sign a holding midfielder this summer.

Hakan Calhanoglu remains the first-choice starter in the role. However, at 31 years of age the Turkish international is very much a player for the present rather than the future.

Meanwhile, Kristjan Asllani has never really proven able to properly back up Calhanoglu.

According to the Corriere, Samuele Ricci is the player who ticks all the boxes for Inter.

At 23 years of age, the former Empoli midfielder certainly has time on his side.

However, that does not mean that Ricci is just a prospect who Inter would hope can improve, along the lines of when they signed Asllani.

On the contrary, Ricci has already proven himself at a high level in Serie A.

Therefore, reports the Corriere, Inter consider the Italian international something of a dream signing.

However, the price tag will be a major obstacle. Torino are well aware of the kind of player they have in Ricci, and will hold out for a big fee.

Meanwhile, the Corriere note, Inter’s city rivals AC Milan are also ready to go all-out to sign Ricci.
