Arsenal continued their Premier League winning run with a 2-0 triumph over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

The Gunners had a tough outing with limited clear-cut chances but picked up maximum points with two late goals.

Mikel Merino came on as an emergency striker and made the difference with a brace in seven minutes. The Spanish midfielder could have scored a hat-trick.

Ethan Nwaneri and Declan Rice were also brilliant. Myles Lewis-Skelly had a quiet game from an attacking point of view but played a major role in the win.

The 18-year-old has earned plaudits for his defensive positioning and showed his class with a sensational last-ditch clearance in the 73rd minute.

Manager Mikel Arteta said that he was initially unaware of Lewis-Skelly’s clearance.

Arteta said: “To be fair, on the bench, I didn’t know whether he touched it or not, or it was a deflection from the cross.

“When I watched it back in the dressing room, it was amazing because it was one of the moments that could change the game and probably the result.”

Thomas Partey was guilty of losing possession in the lead-up. His mistake could have cost Arsenal the game. Lewis-Skelly saved his blushes with an outstanding clearance.

A 1-0 deficit could have been hard to turn around. Arsenal’s win moves them four points behind leaders Liverpool, who host Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon.

The pressure is now on Arne Slot’s side, and the Gunners will hope Wolves can spring up a surprise by picking up a point or a victory at Anfield.
