Legendary former forward Goran Pandev says that Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi “has always been obsessed with football.”
The North Macedonian gave his recollection of his former Lazio teammate to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter coach Inzaghi is now undeniably one of Europe’s top coaches.
The 48-year-old’s reputation on the bench has grown virtually with each passing season.
Firstly, Inzaghi had built a Lazio side that were one of the best in Serie A. The Biancocelesti challenged for the Serie A title and returned to the Champions League under Inzaghi.
That gave Inzaghi a very positive reputation in the Italian top flight – and abroad.
And with Inter, the former Lazio coach has reached another level.
Subsequently, he has won the Serie A title in dominant fashion, and made the Nerazzurri credible contenders in Europe, where they’ve already reached the Champions League final.
Inzaghi’s current success, however, is not something that has come out of nowhere.
Even during his long playing career, the former striker was laying the foundations.
Former Inter, Napoli, and Lazio forward Pandev looked back, “Simone is my friend.”
“I spent five and a half seasons at Lazio. We shared seasons and goals.”
“He was already an obsessive for football at that time,” Pandev looked back. “It was predestined, almost.”
“He knew everything about every player. You could give him the name of Footballer C, and he’d write a report on that player.”
“Then as a coach he became better and better, it was gradual but there was a clear explosion,” Pandev said of Inzaghi. “He’s proving that at Inter.”
Meanwhile, Pandev predicts that Napoli can remain in the title race with Inter and Atalanta.
“Conte is a guarantee,” he said of the Partenopei coach. “Like Simone and Gasperini.”
“It’s not hard for me to say that Atalanta, Inter, and Napoli will fight for the title.”
“They have something more than the other teams,” Pandev predicted.
“And they have coaches who make that extra impact.”
