Rudi Garcia feels that Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis made a big error to allow Piotr Zielinski to join Inter Milan.

Speaking to YouTube Carre, via FCInterNews, the French blasted the Partenopei over the failure to extend the Polish international’s contract.

Midfielder Zielinski joined Inter from Napoli this past summer.

The 30-year-old’s contract with the Campanian club expired. And he declined their offer of a new deal.

Inter were the club to take advantage of Zielinski’s contract situation.

Last winter, the negotiations between the Polish international and Napoli came to a standstill. And the Nerazzurri began negotiating a deal with him in December.

However, in the view of former Napoli coach Garcia, things should never have gotten to that point.

Garcia had a spell in charge at Napoli that only lasted a few months.

The Frenchman took charge after the abrupt departure of Luciano Spalletti.

This was a tremendously tumultuous time at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Walter Mazzarri would replace Garcia on the bench, but then he would only last a few months himself.

In the view of Garcia, the way that the Partenopei were handling contract situations was part of the problem.

In the view of Garcia, “The players unconsciously thought that everything would be like the season prior.”

“But that’s not how it works,” the French coach said.

Garcia noted that “I wanted a defender, like Nayef Aguerd from Real Sociedad.”

“And a physically strong midfielder.”

“Instead they signed more up-and-coming players, and it’s no coincidence that they ended up getting loaned out.”

“I also wanted to extend the contracts of Victor Osimhen and Piotr Zielinski immediately,” Garcia said. “To put them in the best conditions on the pitch.”

“And now I see that this season they’ve invested in a defender like Buongiorno, and Scott McTominay in midfield.”
