Inter Milan are still keeping tabs on Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini.

This according to Italian outlet FCInterNews. They report that there would be significant obstacles to a transfer, but that Scalvini could be within the parameters for Inter owners Oaktree Capital.

Scalvini is a player who has been on Inter’s radar for some time.

The fact that the 20-year-old is a young Italian player naturally makes him a logical target for the Nerazzurri’s project.

Inter have aimed to build around a core of Italian players.

And Scalvini, who has been a regular starter for Atalanta since he was eighteen, could ensure an Italian presence in defense to complement Alessandro Bastoni for many years.

Moreover, Scalvini is familiar with playing in a back three.

The Italian international can play anywhere across a back three. Therefore, he would certainly make for a significant addition to the Nerazzurri’s defensive ranks.

Inter Still Tracking Atalanta Defender Giorgio Scalvini

Inter have not made a decisive move for Scalvini in spite of their interest in recent transfer windows.

The price tag has certainly been a key reason for this.

La Dea want at least €40 million for Scalvini. Likely considerably more than that.

That remains a major obstacle for Inter to sign the Italian international.

However, FCIN report, the fact that Inter have a positive relationship with Atalanta could facilitate negotiations between the two Lombard clubs for Scalvini.

Moreover, the outlet note, Inter owners Oaktree Capital could sanction a big investment in Scalvini.

The owners have made clear what they want from their project. They want to sign young players with plenty of room to grow.

That was the idea with Inter spending a potential €11 million to sign defender Tomas Palacios this summer.

And Scalvini would be a similar situation, albeit for a larger fee.

And then there would be one other big question mark that would make an Inter move for Scalvini tough.

The 20-year-old suffered an ACL rupture that will cause him to be out until around January of next year.

There are big questions about how Scalvini will cope once he returns.

But if Inter do decide to move for the Atalanta defender, they may have a clear run at him from within Serie A.

Napoli decided to invest in Alessandro Buongiorno this summer. And Juventus are not likely to invest in a big money defender considering what they have.
