Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that “winning is hard, but winning again is harder.”

The Nerazzurri coach spoke about his team’s start to the season while talking to reporters after receiving the Manilo Scopigno Award, via FCInterNews.

Inter have not quite gotten this season off to the start they’d have hopped for.

It has hardly been a disastrous start to the campaign for the Nerazzurri. Back-to-back wins against Udinese and Torino have seen them climb up to second place in the table, just behind Napoli.

But these have not exactly been the most convincing of victories from Inzaghi’s team.

The Nerazzurri conceded two goals against both Udinese and Torino.

That makes it three matches in a row in which Inter have conceded that number of goals. They had lost the derby against AC Milan by a 2-1 scoreline.

Meanwhile, Inter also dropped points away to Genoa and Monza in the early weeks of the season.

Clearly, if Inter are to follow up last season’s title-winning heroics, they are going to have to do it the hard way.

Of what looks to be a fierce title race with Napoli, Lazio, Juventus, and AC Milan in contention, Inter coach Inzaghi said that “A lot of teams have strengthened a lot.”

“They’ll want to challenge Inter for our title,” the coach said.

“The first seven matches have shown that all the matches in Serie A are tough,” Inzaghi made clear. “None are predictable.”

“We’ll all give everything to try and win.”

The Inter coach commented that “Winning is difficult, we know that.”

“But then winning again is even more difficult,” he argued.

“But we’re preparing for it. We’re working hard.”

Inzaghi noted that “We’re still just at the beginning, and we need to work to improve every day.”

Of juggling the league and the Champions League, the Inter coach said that “When you’re at Inter, you have to be competitive in all competitions.”

“They all have a big physical and mental cost,” Inzaghi admitted.

“But that’s part of the beauty of football.”

“Playing for the Champions League and the league title is a brilliant thing,” said Inter’s coach.

Of the slight injury scare for striker Marcus Thuram after a heavy challenge in Saturday’s match against Torino, Inzaghi said that “I spoke with the Inter medical staff.”

“He seems to be doing better,” he said of the striker.

“There’s still a bit of apprehension. The French medical staff will evaluate him, and we’ll see.”

“Let’s hope that he can recover quickly,” Inzaghi said of Thuram.

And Inzaghi also was asked about Juventus coach Thiago Motta and Napoli tactician Antonio Conte.

“All of us as coaches have pressure on us,” the Nerazzurri coach said. “All the biggest clubs with the most resources want to do their best.”
