A look at how much money Ipswich Town reportedly want for key winger Omari Hutchinson during this summer's transfer window.
As they prepare for a return to the Championship, Ipswich Town are trying to build a squad capable of once again immediately challenging for promotion back up to the Premier League.
One deal that looks likely that they will have to sort in the coming weeks involves the future of Omari Hutchinson, who is said to be of interest to numerous clubs in both the Premier League and in Europe.
The former Jamaica full international, who helped England defend and win this summer’s UEFA U21 European Championship in Slovakia, appears unlikely to settle for Championship football next season.
It has been reported that Brentford have made an offer that has been rejected for the 21-year-old winger, with the Tractor Boys holding out for even more.
According to The Standard, Ipswich rejected a £35 million offer from Brentford for their star winger, despite it matching what the Bees believed his release clause to be.
It has since become known that that release clause actually expired at 5pm on Tuesday, and so Ipswich are now able to hold out for even more than that initial bid.
It is believed now that Town will want a fee closer to £40 million to part company, and that the Suffolk-based outfit have no desire to sell the former Chelsea and Arsenal man.
£40 million would be double the £20 million that Ipswich reportedly paid Chelsea to sign him on a permanent deal last summer, having previously had him in on loan at Portman Road.
It has also been reported, though, that Hutchinson is indeed keen on a move back to London, and that he believes Brentford to be the best next step for his development.
It is suggested that he has personally shunned interest from newly-promote duo Leeds United and Sunderland because he doesn’t want to be in another relegation battle.
It is, as ever, expected to be a busy summer transfer window for Ipswich, although, at least on paper, it would appear to be the case that Kieran McKenna already has something of an all star squad for Championship level.
Last summer’s additions of the likes of Jacob Greaves, Jack Clarke and Sammie Szmodics, supplemented by the signing of Jaden Philogene in January, to go with a squad that has already gained promotion from the second-tier, would have to mark Ipswich out as one of the pre-season title favourites.
They are expected to remain busy in the market, though, although McKenna and Ipswich can now drive the price for Hutchinson up, especially having already sold Liam Delap to Chelsea for a fee believed to be in the region of £30 million.
In terms of incomings, Ipswich have already brought in three new signings with goalkeeper David Button arriving on a free transfer from Reading to kick things off.
Former Wigan Athletic centre-back Cedric Kipre has joined on loan from Stade de Reims, whilst defensive midfielder Azor Matusiwa has signed for an undisclosed fee from Rennes.
