Liverpool have been linked with a high profile move for Hugo Ekitike this summer
Hugo Ekitike could be in line for an increase in his wages with a move from Eintracht Frankfurt to Liverpool this summer.
It has been reported by The Athletic that the Reds are advancing in their bid to sign the forward before the new Premier League season.
While it’s understood that personal terms are not expected to be an issue, it’s likely that the Frenchman will still be looking for an increase in his current salary.
According to estimated figures from Capology, Ekitike is earning £58,319 per week with Frankfurt, compared to the likes of Mo Salah and Florian Wirtz, who receive £400,000 and £195,000, but it’s unlikely he will quite reach those figures if the deal comes to fruition.
Liverpool’s chances of signing the forward increased, with it being claimed by The Athletic that Newcastle United have pulled out of the race to sign him.
Salah is currently Liverpool’s top earner, having signed a new deal earlier this year after uncertainty over his future at Anfield.
The Egyptian played a pivotal role in the club earning a second Premier League title this decade, and their 20th championship in total.
He contributed 29 goals and 18 assists, with Arne Slot’s side finishing 10 points clear of Arsenal in second, with his strong performances more than justifying making him the team’s top earner.
Virgil van Dijk has the second biggest base salary at the Merseyside outfit, with the Dutchman also putting speculation over his future to bed with a new contract earlier this year.
The defender receives £350,000 per week, with Wirtz arriving from Bayer Leverkusen this summer to earn the third biggest salary.
Liverpool pay an average weekly wage of £95,100, with the total payroll amounting to £2.85 million each week.
Only Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal pay more per week to their first team squads.
Ekitike has proven himself as a valuable member of the Frankfurt squad, with the team coming third in the Bundesliga last season.
The German side also reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League, suffering elimination at the hands of eventual winners Tottenham Hotspur.
Ekitike contributed 15 goals and eight assists for Frankfurt last season, having grown in importance after his initial move from PSG in the 2024 January window.
He originally joined on loan before signing as a permanent player that summer, agreeing to a five year deal which runs until 2029.
This contract sees him receive £58,319 from the German club, which is the same as Kevin Trapp, Mario Gotze and Robin Koch.
This salary is also more than Liverpool forward Luis Diaz, who is currently receiving £55,000 per week from the Reds.
However, the likes of Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai are both earning £120,000, which might be more in line with what Ekitike will be looking to receive from his potential deal with the Premier League club.
Darwin Nunez is paid £140,000, and Ekitike’s arrival could end up costing more than the Uruguayan, so perhaps he could even be due a salary of this size with a switch from Frankfurt.
