It’s been a few months since Paris Saint-Germain said goodbye to Lionel Messi. The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner left as a free agent and eventually signed with Inter Miami as a free agent.
As for PSG, the capital club attempted to recruit some players to replace the offensive production left behind with the Argentine’s departure. One of the players filling Messi’s shoes in Paris is Kang-in Lee.
The South Korean has shown flashes of his potential these last few weeks. As a result, one pundit believes Lee is the right player to help replace the 36-year-old.
At 22, Lee isn’t a finished product and has yet to hit his prime years. Nonetheless, David Ginola drew comparisons between the two players during his appearance on Canal Champions Club.
“As a player, when we look at him, when we look at images of him, even when he played in Mallorca, there is a left foot that still looks a lot like the left foot of Messi,” Ginola said (h/t Le10Sport). “I’m talking about how to move on the ground.
“The way to always be offbeat when he takes support with his left foot, we find gestures and movements that Messi made when he left Barça. We are waiting to see him blossom and flourish at PSG.”
Lee can also help PSG off the pitch, as the South Korean can corner the Asian market and possibly beyond if he continues this upward trajectory. Now, can Lee become the next Messi? It’s highly doubtful, but he can bring the same skill sets to compensate for what they have lost on and off the field.
