West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca has revealed he wants to join AS Roma, who have been heavily linked with the Italian striker in the summer transfer window.
Scamacca has endured a miserable time in the Premier League since moving from Sassuolo in a highly-anticipated move last summer.
The Italian striker has struggled to adapt to David Moyes’ set-up, and a knee surgery saw him sidelined for several months last season.
Scamacca’s future has been subject to intense speculation, with Giallorossi looking keen to recruit him this summer.
The Europa Conference League winners are willing to get the best out of him next season, but the Italian is keen on a move away to revive his career.
Speaking in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rome-born striker has admitted that he can improve himself under Giallorossi manager Jose Mourinho.
“Roma is my home,’’ said Scamacca (h/t Roma Press). “It’d be a dream scenario to have José Mourinho as manager.”
“I’m sure I’d improve my skills a lot under José at Roma.”
The Portuguese manager has also personally identified Scamacca as the top target to lead his attack in future.
While an outright transfer looks difficult, Roma are looking to sign the former Neroverdi star on loan with a mandatory buy option.
Scammaca’s words have diminished the hopes of Juventus, who are also monitoring the Azzurri international.
He has emerged as a potential replacement for Dusan Vlahovic, who could be on his way out of Juve this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain leading the race to land the Serbian.
