Georgia Stanway scored in a 4-1 victory for Bayern Munich over Real Madrid
England star Georgia Stanway scored in her first start since the Lionesses’ Euro 2025 triumph, as Bayern Munich thrashed Real Madrid 4-1 in a pre-season friendly.
Stanway is entering her fourth season with the German side after joining from Manchester City in 2022.
She returned to the squad last week to a warm reception from her teammates after taking a short break since the Euros.
Stanway started in every game of the tournament and scored in victories over Netherlands and Wales during the group stage.
The midfielder looks to be heading into the new campaign in excellent form after scoring two goals in two games.
She came off the bench to score in a 2-2 draw against Zurich, before scoring Bayern Munich’s opener from the penalty spot against Real Madrid.
Stanway will play a vital part for Bayern Munich during the 2024-25 season as they push for success in the women’s Bundesliga and the Champions League.
Bayern Munich will also play for their first trophy of the season next week.
Bayern Munich congratulated Georgia Stanway on her Euro 2025 triumph with England, before their pre-season friendly against Real Madrid.
Stanway and England successfully defended the European Championship trophy, beating Spain on penalties.
The 26-year-old was presented with flowers by Bianca Rech, director of women’s football at Bayern Munich.
In the game itself, Stanway took just seven minutes to find the back of the net from the penalty spot.
It was the start of a dominant first-half performance from the German side against the Spanish giants.
German international Linda Dallman doubled the scoring just one minute later, before Momoko Tanikawa made it 3-0 after 32 minutes.
Naomie Feller pulled one back for Real Madrid, before Natalia Padilla-Bidas scored her first goal for Bayern Munich in the second-half to make it 4-1.
Bayern Munich could win their first trophy of the season next week when they play VfL Wolfsburg in the German Super Cup.
The Frauen-Bundesliga season then gets underway on the weekend of September 6th.
Bayern Munich face Bayer Leverkusen in their opening game of the season.
Stanway’s Bayern Munich side beat VfL Wolsburg to the title by eight points last season.
However, they will be hoping for better in the Champions League, after they crashed out with a heavy 6-1 aggregate defeat to Lyon.
