In an unusual turn of events, a streamer and content creator has acquired the rights to broadcast the Saudi Pro League in France.
For the past two seasons, the Saudi Pro League has been broadcast on Canal Plus, however, they will not be showing the upcoming campaign. Instead of being acquired by a traditional broadcaster, the rights have been swept up by streamer Zack Nani, who often hosts interviews with big-name players in the French game in his show ‘Zack en roue libre’. Those interviews are available on Twitch and YouTube.
Nani revealed the details of the deal in an interview with L’Équipe, stating that it is the largest investment that he has ever made. “It is a figure beyond six figures for one season and a second year as an option,” revealed the streamer. He added that a paid channel in France could technically still purchase the rights to broadcast the Saudi top-flight.
He has the right to show three matches within any matchweek, whilst he is obliged to show at least one. All the matches will be free on Twitch and YouTube. He revealed how the games would be commented on. “Every week, for the biggest match, I want to create a format with guests who won’t really come to commentate on the match in its purest sense but rather to watch with us. There will be someone specialised in football, because the idea is to be clever, but also to have another person, less of a specialist, to bring something different and some interaction with the chat on Twitch,” he revealed.
