Despite their struggles over recent weeks, it has been an absolutely tremendous debut season from Arne Slot at Liverpool.
Following the departure of Jurgen Klopp, many thought it was the end of this successful spell on Merseyside – but could they have been more wrong?

As it stands, Liverpool sit 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League table with nine games left, losing just one league game all season. Slot had also guided his side to the top of the UEFA Champions League phase, prior to their defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16, as well as a Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United.
The hurt from Wembley still lingers, with a seemingly ever-lasting international break taking place directly afterwards.
Former England defender Danny Mills spoke exclusively to Anfield Index and urged Liverpool supporters to remember just how impressive this season has been…
“Up until a month ago, it has been absolutely faultless,” began Mills, “Slot has done unbelievably well to come in and tweak little things, he deserves so much credit.”
“It’s easy to look back in hindsight and criticise his team selection against Plymouth Argyle, for example,” continued Mills, “But it’s all a learning curve for him and he is still doing incredibly well.”

It would be easy to forget that this is Slot’s first time managing a team of Liverpool’s magnitude and it’s completely normal to struggle at times in your first year. I’m sure a lot of managers would love to struggle a little bit in their first year in the Premier League and still come out with a league title…
You can even look back at Jurgen Klopp’s first couple of seasons in charge of the Reds, where he couldn’t seem to crack the domestic cup competitions.
“The players seem happier and they’ve had a lot less injuries this season,” said Mills, “They’re going to go on and win the Premier League title, which is some achievement.”
“I think to come in after Jurgen Klopp, and the personality that he was, and to absolutely revitalise the club is remarkable,” continued Mills.
“Klopp was getting tired and those energy levels were starting to drop and now Slot has come in and gave them a new lease of life.”

At this point last year, Klopp’s farewell tour had started to hit a brick wall. The Reds were knocked out of the UEFA Europa League to Atalanta, as well as the FA Cup at the hands of Manchester United and then their Premier League title pursuit collapsed with a home defeat to Crystal Palace.
The squad looked flat and were clearly running out of ideas, which Slot has been able to come in and completely revamp those energy levels and is about to win the league title with a squad of around 14 players ultimately.
We’re seeing the best version of Mohamed Salah, whilst Ryan Gravenberch has also become an absolute revelation and we’re also seeing improvements in the likes of Cody Gakpo and Ibrahima Konate. It’s impossible to argue with the job that Slot has done so far on Merseyside.
