Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of former Arsenal sporting director Edu as global head of football.

Edu surprised many when resigning as the Gunners’ sporting director last year, and was soon after confirmed in a senior role as part of Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis’ stable of clubs, which also includes Olympiacos and Rio Ave FC.

It has been previously reported that Marinakis wants to further expand his portfolio of clubs to include Brazilian side Vasco.

Edu has now been appointed in a newly created role at Forest to “oversee football operations”. He told the club’s official website: “I’m truly excited about this new chapter and honoured by the trust placed in me. This project connects deeply with my values around innovation and long-term planning.

“I look forward to building a global football model that is competitive, sustainable, and aligned with our President’s ambition.”

Club president Marinakis added: “We are extremely happy to welcome Edu to our football family. His global experience, values, and winning mindset align perfectly with our objective to strengthen and expand our international football platform.”

Arsenal replaced Edu with Andrea Berta, who has played a key role in the club signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad and is heavily involved in transfer talks over a deal to bring Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting.
