Tuesday’s reports claim that Fiorentina have reached a decision to extend the contract of former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, who joined La Viola as a free agent on a one-year contract with an option to extend at the beginning of the 2024-25 campaign.
De Gea, who spent 12 seasons at Old Trafford before being released in 2023, took a year out of the professional game in 2023-24 before joining Fiorentina on a free transfer on a one-year deal with an option to extend for a further 12 months.
According to reports from Calciomercato.com, Fiorentina have decided to exercise that option in the 34-year-old’s contract, as they wish to keep him on board beyond the summer after a fine series of performances since his Serie A move.

The Spaniard reportedly earns around €1.2m per season on his current Fiorentina contract, which will reportedly be doubled if the option to extend his stay for a further year is exercised.
Reports earlier in the week claimed that Fiorentina and De Gea will sit down at a later date to further discuss the options surrounding a renewal, as there have been suggestions that the two parties could look to negotiate a deal that extends beyond the 2025-26 campaign.
