This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera dropped a bombshell from the blue regarding allegations of betting involving players.
According to the paper (via MilanPress) there are 12 players being investigated just from Serie A, but this does not concern bets on games (match or spot-fixing), but rather bets on poker or blackjack on illegal platforms. In this sense, it is different to the Sandro Tonali case.
The managers of these platforms have already been identified: Tommaso De Giacomo and Patrick Fizzera. They managed everything illegally and lent money to footballers, who then returned it to the two through fake purchase transfers.
It all happened through a jewellery store, where the interested parties went to pay their debts, then leaving with the invoice for a Rolex or a valuable jewel, but the objects for which they ‘paid’ remained in the store. That is how they laundered the money for/from illegal bets.
Among the various footballers reported to the authorities is Milan full-back Alessandro Florenzi. What is he at risk of? First of all, he and the others will have to face a criminal charge, being accused of having participated in poker games not authorised by the Customs and Monopolies Agency.
The fine can reach up to 500 euros, but it is not a huge problem. From a sporting point of view , however, if it were ascertained that it was ‘only’ poker or other online games that do not include sports betting, the sporting justice system would not intervene.
