Ederson is set to join Fenerbahce this summer as Manchester City reach an agreement over a deal for their long-standing number one choice, according to reports.

The Brazilian international has been the subject of intense speculation throughout the summer, with his future becoming increasingly uncertain after eight successful seasons at the Etihad Stadium.

Ederson, who has been consistently linked with interest from Saudi Arabia since 2024, now appears ready to make the switch to Turkey after fresh advances from Fenerbahce to leapfrog rivals Galatasaray in the chase for the player’s signature..

Manchester City had initially stood firm on their €15 million valuation of the goalkeeper, rejecting earlier bids, although reports over the last few days revealed that Fenerbahce returned with improved terms, adding extra bonus clauses in an attempt to find a compromise.

The two clubs have now seemingly found common ground, clearing the way for Ederson to depart before the end of the transfer window, and also pave the way for Gianluigi Donnarumma to join from Paris Saint-Germain.

Guardiola’s preparations for the new season have reflected the uncertainty in the goalkeeping department. James Trafford, re-signed from Burnley earlier this summer, has started the opening three Premier League matches, while Stefan Ortega Moreno’s own long-term role remains unclear amid his desire to be a first-choice option elsewhere.

Guardiola himself recently admitted in a press conference that “change” was possible, further fuelling expectations that Ederson’s time in Manchester was drawing to a close.

Now, according to the information of Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, Ederson has accepted Fenerbahçe’s offer to him on personal terms, while the Super Lig giants have also reportedly reached an agreement with Manchester City over a transfer.

The deal represents a major coup for Fenerbahce, who have been pursuing significant reinforcements in their bid to challenge at home and in Europe.

For Manchester City, however, the agreement raises serious questions about who will take the number one spot for the remainder of the campaign, with James Trafford having held the role since the start of the new season but arguably the world’s best shot-stopper in Gianluigi Donnarumma expected to join the ranks.

Should a new arrival be secured in the Italian, Ortega’s future will have to be thrashed out swiftly given his ambition to play regular first-team football and not find himself as third-choice within the Etihad Stadium.

Either way, Ederson’s impending departure marks the end of an era at the Etihad Stadium, with one of the key figures of Pep Guardiola’s trophy-laden years set for a new chapter in Turkey.
