The season may be over, but there's still plenty of football to be played! When the best national teams in Europe compete in Germany from 14 June, numerous Bayern players will of course be involved. But who, exactly? When will they play? And what role will the Allianz Arena play in the tournament? A guide to the European Championship from FCB's point of view. (All timings in CEST)

FC Bayern's record appearance makers at EURO 2024

FC Bayern traditionally provides the largest contingent for the German national team. Five Munich-based players are in the DFB squad for the home European Championship. In all, 10 of the German record champions' players have been called up for the finals. This puts FCB in eighth place internationally, with Manchester City and Inter Milan (13 each) sending the most players to the tournament.

The most-capped international at FCB is Thomas Müller. The veteran has already made 129 appearances for the DFB squad ahead of the European Championship, ten more than Manuel Neuer (119). The two Bayern stalwarts are also the most experienced European Championship players in the FCB squad, having appeared in 15 matches each in 2012, 2016 and 2021. Should Germany make it to the final of EURO 2024, they could significantly climb the record appearance-maker rankings:

  • Cristiano Ronaldo: 25 appearances
  • Pepe: 19 appearances
  • João Moutinho: 19 appearances
  • Bastian Schweinsteiger: 18 appearances
  • Leonardo Bonucci: 18 appearances

Another top statistic is provided by teammate Harry Kane: no other FC Bayern player has scored as often for his country as the England captain: the Three Lions' record goalscorer has netted a total of 63 times in 91 international appearances. To be continued...

The final: Many roads lead to Berlin

The final of the European Championship will be held in Berlin's Olympiastadion.

The European Championship has been held 16 times to date and the host nation has won the trophy just three times, with the most recent being France 40 years ago. So it's time to polish up the home record of the European Championship hosts! The German national team's big goal is therefore the final on 14 July in Berlin. Depending on how head coach Julian Nagelsmann's side perform in the group stage, the path to the final could look very different.

The tournament opens in Munich exactly one month before the final. Germany take on Scotland at the Allianz Arena on 14 June (21:00). On 19 June (18:00), they face Hungary in Stuttgart before the clash with their neighbours Switzerland on 23 June (21:00) in Frankfurt. The German team will secure a place in the knockout stage if they finish the group stage in first or second place. The DFB team also have a chance of progressing if they finish third and are one of the four best third-placed teams in the group stage.

The UEFA EURO 2024 match ball will see action in six games at the Allianz Arena.

Welcome dahoam! Munich is one of a total of ten venues for the 2024 European Championship, with six matches taking place at our Allianz Arena. Only the Dortmund and Berlin stadiums will host the same number of games during this year's tournament.

It's yet to be decided who will play in the round of 16 on 2 July and the semi-finals on 9 July at FC Bayern's home ground. We can, however, already look forward to these group matches:

  • Germany vs. Scotland (14 June, 21:00)
  • Romania vs. Ukraine (17 June, 15:00)
  • Slovenia vs. Serbia (20 June, 15:00)
  • Denmark vs. Serbia (25 June, 21:00)

An opening match at a World Cup and at a European Championship? Only Munich will be able to lay claim to that after 14 June in Germany. These German stadiums have previously hosted the opening matches of European Championships and World Cups in their own country:

  • World Cup 1974: Frankfurter Waldstadion
  • EURO 1988: Düsseldorfer Rheinstadion
  • World Cup 2006: Allianz Arena
  • EURO 2024: Allianz Arena

The home of the German record champions also has another unique attribute: matches also took place in Fröttmaning during EURO 2020, making the Allianz Arena the first stadium ever to host two consecutive European Championship tournaments.
