Manchester City have secured a deal to sign Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the transfer set to provide a key addition to their squad. The move, confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, is expected to cost the Premier League champions less than previously anticipated, making it a savvy piece of business for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Man City have long been searching for a top-tier left-back, and Ait-Nouri fits the bill. While Josko Gvardiol has impressed in the left-back position, he was originally signed as a centre-back. Guardiola’s team requires a dedicated left-back to provide competition for spots and to add depth to their defensive options. Ait-Nouri, known for his attacking prowess down the left flank, has been a standout performer for Wolves, offering the dynamic edge that City require.
The Algerian’s desire to move to a bigger club has been evident, with reports indicating he turned down offers to extend his contract at Molineux, which runs until 2026. This determination to leave Wolves has only added to his appeal, and City have moved quickly to finalise the deal.
Initially, it was believed that Ait-Nouri would command a hefty fee of around £50 million. However, in a twist, City have successfully negotiated a lower price. According to Fabrizio Romano, the final fee will be closer to €40 million (£34 million / $46 million), a £16 million saving compared to earlier estimates. This makes the deal even more appealing for City, who can use the funds saved to bolster other areas of the squad.
Romano revealed that the deal between the clubs was finalised on Thursday, with Ait-Nouri expected to undergo his medical on Saturday. The left-back’s decision to accept City’s project earlier in the week marks a significant step forward for Guardiola’s team as they look to continue their dominance in the Premier League and beyond.

Ait-Nouri is not the only player on City’s radar this summer. The club has also made significant strides in securing central midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan. The deal for Reijnders, which has been approved by Romano, is expected to cost between €55-57 million, with bonuses pushing the total fee to €70 million (£59 million / $80 million).
Furthermore, Lyon’s Rayan Cherki has also been identified as a key target for City, with the club eyeing him as a potential successor to the ageing Kevin De Bruyne. Reports have indicated that Cherki has already agreed to the move, and Man City are pushing ahead with negotiations to secure his services. City’s opening bid for the 21-year-old playmaker was rejected, with Lyon demanding a significantly higher fee, but the pursuit remains ongoing.
As Manchester City continue to strengthen their squad, the addition of Rayan Ait-Nouri could be an important part of their long-term plans. The left-back offers not only defensive solidity but also the kind of attacking threat that City have become known for under Guardiola. With the transfer window still open, fans can expect further moves as City look to ensure they are well-prepared for another season of high-level competition both domestically and in Europe.
While the deal for Ait-Nouri is not yet fully completed, it marks a significant step in City’s summer recruitment strategy. If the medical goes smoothly, Guardiola will have secured a promising addition to his squad at a price that leaves plenty of room for further improvements.
