With the Club World Cup over and the majority of Chelsea’s summer incomings completed, the focus can turn to sales.
There are so many players who need to be moved on, either permanently or on development loans. It’s going to be a crazy busy few weeks on that front.
Earlier this morning we heard reports from Fabrizio Romano that Mike Penders’ deal to join our sister club Strasbourg on loan was done. The goalkeeper, who is seen as a “top talent for the future” will head to Ligue 1 to replace Djordje Petrovic, who is on the verge of a permanent move to Bournemouth.
We can only loan 3 players to Strasbourg each year, but it looks like we’re not hanging around before sending the second one to join Penders.
Fabrizio Romano’s Tweet about Kendry Paez.
Romano followed up his earlier Tweets with a claim that Kendry Paez is going to be next up. The details of a loan are being “clarified”, and then the Ecuador star will go to France for this “new chapter.”
Paez did some training sessions with Liam Rosenior and his team earlier in the year when his time at Independiente del Valle came to an end, so this has been in the works for a while.
Penders should step into their team as first choice goalkeeper – despite his huge potential, that’s a major step up for him. Paez will likely have to work his way into the first team picture over time. But for both of them this should be a really useful next step.
This should be a good way to adjust to European football for a player who we should remember is still just 18 years old and is a long way from a finished product.
