The 30-year-old joined the Lions from Hull City in the 2022 summer transfer window, and has become an important member of the squad during his three seasons at The Den.

Meanwhile, Steve Bruce is leading Blackpool into his first summer window since taking over as Tangerines boss back in September last year, and is hoping to conduct some shrewd business in order to get his side into the League One play-off places next season.

Football League World has exclusively been informed that Blackpool are among a number of clubs chasing the signature of Millwall midfielder George Honeyman.

The Sunderland academy graduate is set to become a free agent this summer, as his contract with the Lions is set to expire on 30 June according to Capology.

Confirmed in their retained list following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, Millwall have revealed that they are in talks with Honeyman over a new deal with the club, but as of yet, nothing has been agreed.

As such, it's our understanding that Bruce is now keen to lure the attacking midfielder to Bloomfield Road on a free transfer this summer.

Little risk is often attached with signing players on free transfers for obvious reasons, but great rewards can also be found when sampling this market.

In the case of Honeyman, should he indeed hit the free agent market this summer, then his vast amounts of EFL experience would surely present him as being an extremely useful player for any League One side to have in their squad.

Indeed, he played an essential role in Hull City's League One title-winning 2020/21 season, in which he made 42 league appearances, scoring four goals and providing a whopping 13 assists for the Tigers that term.

He's also played a season of third tier football with Sunderland in 2018/19, whilst racking up over 220 Championship appearances during his career so far - per Transfermarkt.

On top of that, he will only turn 31 in early September this year, meaning he should still have a number of quality years left in the tank ahead of him.

Therefore, with his significant EFL experience, a League One title on his CV, the fact he's entering the 25/26 season off the back of playing 40 games in the Championship last term, and the potential to secure his signature as a free agent, completing a deal for Honeyman could be a no-brainer for a club like Blackpool.
