Joleon Lescott has explained why he thinks Everton should sign Callum Wilson.
Only the three relegated clubs scored less goals than the 42 that the Toffees managed in the Premier League.
Everton are also set to lose Dominic Calvert-Lewin at the end of the month as he has repeatedly refused to sign a new contract. Ironically, Newcastle United have been regularly linked with the soon to be Everton free agent.
Callum Wilson is now 33 and out of contract himself, as things currently stand. However, when Newcastle United announced their retained and released lists earlier this month, they stated (see below) they were still in talks with both Callum Wilson and John Ruddy with new contracts potentially set to be agreed.
Interesting to see what actually happens with both Callum Wilson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Joleon Lescott asked the question by Betway – ‘Is there a No. 9 you think Everton should sign?‘
“I’ll tell you who wouldn’t be a bad one, Callum Wilson.
“He wouldn’t be a bad signing because he focuses on goals, has a high work rate and that is what Everton fans love.
“As much as you’re scoring goals, what are you giving? He plays with his heart on his sleeve.
“Knowing him as a person, the temperament of the club and the expectation, he’s coming from Newcastle where the expectation is very high, so he wouldn’t be fazed by the expectation of Everton either.”
Newcastle United official announcement – 6 June 2026:
Newcastle United can announce its retained list of men’s first team players for the 2025/26 season.
Callum Wilson and John Ruddy are set to be out of contract at the end of June, however the club has opened discussions with both players about their futures and new contracts could still be agreed.
