Everton have endured a difficult few years. The club, once a regular contender for European places, has spent the last few seasons reminiscing about past glories. The constant threat of relegation has hit the fans hard and tested the sporting structure. Although the team has shown signs of recovery, especially under David Moyes, consistency is still lacking. At Goodison Park, there is a sense of urgency in the ongoing summer transfer window, but also a faint hope. The arrival of the right signing could change the mood completely.

The management knows that survival is not enough, as the team needs experience, leadership and quality. In midfield, the departures of Doucouré and Mangala have left gaps that are difficult to fill. Moyes needs a player capable of taking charge, someone with extensive experience in the league and the character to lead in the midfield.

Douglas Luiz, the signing that could change everything for Everton

According to Italian media Tuttosport, Everton are leading the race to sign Douglas Luiz, a 27-year-old Brazilian midfielder currently with Juventus. West Ham‘s interest is still alive, but Everton seem to have moved up a gear. Luiz already knows English football well after his successful spell at Aston Villa, and that could facilitate his immediate adaptation.

He has not done well in Italy. The midfielder’s time in Turin has been inconsistent, with few opportunities and no statistical impact. However, his talent has not just left him. In the Premier League, he made more than 170 appearances, with goals, assists and a lot of influence. The Brazilian can recover balls, create chances, and pop up at important moments. If he arrives at Goodison Park, Everton could get a top-level reinforcement.

A gamble that makes sense, with clear conditions.

Douglas Luiz could be the midfielder Everton have been looking for for years. He has technical quality, physical stamina, and above all, experience at the top level. At 27, he is at the ideal stage to perform at his best. Moyes would know how to use the Brazilian midfielder. A double pivot with Onana and Luiz sounds solid, physical and capable of handling big games. It would also provide finishing and some goalscoring from midfield, something Everton have been lacking for some time.

However, caution must be exercised. His underperformance at Juventus raises doubts. Not all footballers bounce back after a grey period. Moreover, the £30-35 million mentioned as a price tag may be excessive for the club’s finances. That is why a loan with an option to buy is the most reasonable way forward, but we doubt that Juventus will accept such a loan proposal. Meanwhile, if Luiz regains the level he showed at Villa Park, Everton will have struck gold, but if he struggles to adapt again, the season could go awry before December.
