You know that player who steps onto the field and changes everything? The one who just gets the big moments? Well, that's exactly what Evander did in his debut for FC Cincinnati against Motagua. He came on in the 60th minute, and in just 30 minutes of action, he caused more chaos than some veterans could manage in 90. One goal, one assist, two moves that had defenders dizzy, and a passing accuracy that showed he’s not just stylish, he’s smart with it. And this was his first game! He didn’t even have time to break a sweat at the club.
It’s not an overstatement to say Evander fits into this team like a glove. He’d already been showing some impressive soccer before he even put on the Cincinnati shirt, and now he's proving that his adjustment to the American game is gonna be quicker than a well-executed counterattack. The way he moves, the way he reads the game, the way he spots passes no one else sees... that kind of thing can’t be taught. It’s pure talent.
His first goal for Cincinnati wasn’t just a pretty number in the stats. It was a statement. If the other teams haven’t figured it out yet, they’d better start paying attention because this guy looks like he’s just getting started.
And that assist? Oh, that deserves its own paragraph. You know that pass that looks simple but is actually deadly? Yep, he delivered one of those. The ball came in crisp, sweet, just perfect for his teammate to slot it home. And that ability to decide a game with one pass is the kind of thing that separates the good players from the great ones.
Soccer isn’t just about talent, it’s about mentality. There are plenty of talented guys who disappear when the heat’s on. But Evander doesn’t seem like one of those. He came in at the 60th minute, didn’t hide, and went straight into battle. He grabbed the ball, took charge, and made things happen.
Plus, there's a little technical detail that deserves mention: his passing accuracy was 75%. That means he’s not just about attack, he’s got a solid game too. He’s not the type of midfielder to try unnecessary tricks and lose possession. He knows exactly where to put the ball and when to push the pace or slow things down. He also created a great goal-scoring opportunity, so, on top of what he already did, he could’ve had another assist. The guy came in hungry for the ball and with a winning mentality.
If he keeps this up, he could become one of FC Cincinnati’s key players, and who knows, maybe even catch the eye of big European clubs down the road. But for now, what matters is the immediate impact. And if this debut is any indication of what’s to come, well, color me excited.
Sure, a stellar debut doesn’t mean Evander is automatically the best player in MLS. But, man, he’s already ahead of the pack. If he stays consistent, keeps playing with that kind of swagger, and fits into the coach’s system, he could very well become the team's main guy. He’s already shown he’s got the vision, the nose for goal, and that refined touch that sets the stars apart from the rest. Now, we just have to see if he can keep that level up all season long.
