Edon Zhegrova’s departure from Lille OSC was almost a given at the end of last season. However, there has since been a U-turn and the Kosovo international has now been reintegrated into the first team set-up, according to a report from L’Équipe.
Zhegrova expressed a desire to leave Lille last summer. The club were opposed to his departure, however, and he stayed. The suitors haven’t lined up in the same way this summer. That is due to an injury-ridden season for Zhegrova, whose has not played since December as he contends with a groin injury.
Napoli have previously shown interest, but have not been insistent this summer, whilst rivals Olympique de Marseille have now joined the race. The Kosovan expressed at the start of the summer a desire to leave, and this time, the club are not standing in his way, in the event of a reasonable offer. However, as one is yet to arrive, he has been reintegrated into the set-up, as of Monday morning, as per L’Équipe.
Prior, he had been training with the reserves, in anticipation of a departure. Lille president Olivier Létang said last week that it was expected that Zhegrova would leave this summer, but that the “conditions were not aligned” for that to happen, at this time. There is now a chance for the forward to stay and see out the final year of his deal.
