Driouech signs: Leeds United should secure these 3 shrewd transfers before August 30th

Daniel Farke and his team are going to have to be clever with their money this summer.

Leeds United won't be as spend-heavy this summer due to the financial regulations that they need to meet in their second consecutive season in the EFL.

The purse strings may have had to have been slightly tighter anyway had Leeds won promotion via the play-offs, but missing out on Premier League football entirely, thanks to their Wembley loss to Southampton, really put them under fiscal pressure.

In all likelihood, their best player from last season, Crysencio Summerville, will leave Elland Road this summer.

It's going to be tough to convince the reigning Championship Player of the Season to stick around when Brighton, Liverpool and Chelsea are after him, although the club feel the reported interest in him has given their position a bit of a boost, as per the Yorkshire Evening Post.

With the wingers' departure nearing on inevitable, and the holes left by loanees who've gone back to their parent clubs, United have a lot of work to do, and not as many resources to do it with.

But there are some clever moves to be made that could improve Daniel Farke's squad, and here are three of them.

Colin Kleine-Bekel

A deal for one of Farke's former squad members would come as no surprise to anybody this summer. But, on a bit of a wider scale, he does also like to recruit from his homeland of Germany. Ilia Gruev's signing last summer was a prime example of that.

The Whites are in need of defensive reinforcement, not in the usual way though. They weren't leaky last season; they require their defenders to be in the opposition's half more often than in their own, if they want to be chasing promotion again.

Colin Kleine-Bekel is one of the best passing central defenders outside of Europe's big five leagues, and currently plies his trade for Holstein Kiel.

That profile of defender, who can assist his team in attacks and help out at the back, is perfect for what Leeds need, and Transfermarkt only value the 21-year-old at €3 million (~ £2.5 million).

He did suffer a cruciate ligament injury in March. This could put him out of action for a while, but it could also lower the price of what looks to be a very talented young defender.

Couhaib Driouech

With one Dutch winger potentially heading out of the door, why don't Leeds go and replace him with another one?

Excelsior's flashy left-sided wideman Couhaib Driouech has been linked with a move to Elland Road already by Dutch outlet Voetbalzone. He registered 12 combined goals and assists in the Eredivisie last season, and was one of the best dribblers outside of Europe's top five leagues, according to FBRef.

His ability to create chances for others, plus his versatility (he can play on the right too), make him a great option for United to go for this summer.

Alfie Gilchrist

The only time that some people might have heard or saw Chelsea's young defender play was, unfortunately for him, when he lined up in the starting XI against Arsenal. What proceeded was a 5-0 beatdown.

That wasn't a fair reflection of Alfie Gilchrist as a player, or certainly the level that Chelsea see him as being able to play at.

He played right-back on the night - an area of the pitch that Leeds sorely need to address - but he's more naturally suited to being in the middle of defence.

Mauricio Pochettino having the trust in the 20-year-old to play him on such a big occasion speaks volumes about what he can do going forward.
