The Whites were unable to gain promotion at the first time of asking and face a tough summer period of rebuilding, with multiple players set to leave the club. They will need to replace key personnel who depart, especially those that were a major component of the reason they finished the season in third.

The Daily Mail has reported that the Whites may have to generate around £100 million in player sales following their failure to secure promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. That's despite Red Bull's lucrative sponsorship deal with the club.

The Whites will be bracing themselves for a somewhat difficult transfer window, with plenty of interest expected in the young stars who took them to the cusp of promotion whilst cash flow and debts remain an issue. That's despite Archie Gray closing in on a move to Tottenham for £40 million.

Other young stars such as Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto are expected to have interest and could still be sold to help balance the books before the club can make significant investments of their own in the form of incoming players to the squad.

If Leeds can keep a core of a team together, then there optimism will remain about next year and what Daniel Farke's side can achieve in the Championship, with promotion expected to be the aim once again.

Loan clauses negatively impacted the club last year, but after Jack Harrison rejoined Everton, with his loan clause still active, there now appears to be fewer issues on that front this summer.

Luis Sinisterra's sale, alongside Marc Roca's will have helped to balance the books before Leeds can make significant investments of their own in the form of incoming players to the squad.

However, Simon Jones of The Daily Mail is reporting that a further four players could be set to depart the club following Gray's sale to Spurs and with Marc Roca's nove back to Spain permanently.

He said: "Leeds maintained they did not need to sell for profit and sustainability rules (PSR) after offloading Marc Roca to Real Betis but they have to trim their budget ahead of next season.

"Rennes also want Glen Kamara, while they are expected to sell Junior Firpo, and either Patrick Bamford or Joel Piroe amid interest from abroad."

Firpo (33), Bamford (36), Kamara (42), and Piroe (49) were all almost the spine and core of the side last season in terms of appearances, but perhaps highlight the clubs need to raise further funds to be aggressive in the market and to also protect the club financially in 2024/25.

Leeds' 2024/25 planning

The club's financial position is not abundantly clear, despite the noises coming out of the club, with The Athletic reporting that the deal to sell Gray will likely put Leeds in a good position regarding PSR rules "and should mean they are not under pressure to sell any more assets this summer, unless players request to leave."

The report from Jones signifies that it is not necessarily the case that they are home and dry on that front, if Leeds are open to selling some of the other core members of the 2023/24 team. However, what is important for Farke and co. is to have some continuity heading into the next season.

Leeds adding Joe Rodon helps matters in that respect, but they also cannot afford to rip out the heart of the team, with relationships all over the pitch crucial in order to hit the ground running in 2024/25.
