Roma manager Daniele De Rossi spoke to Roma TV in the aftermath of the team’s 0-2 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.

De Rossi discussed the performance and what it will take to turn things around in the return leg.

“We played a fair first half, we did what we had to do. Then when you go behind against a team that is so strong, fast and skilled on the counterattack you risk falling too much behind.”

“We fought until the end, the second one was another good goal for them. I think we had many opportunities to at least close the gap and make the match easier on the return leg.”

“But we believe in a comeback, there are seven days left, now we’ll think about the league and then we’ll prepare for the second match.”

“Other evenings were luckier for us. We must be aware that this is football and that we can only take the positive side. We won matches by scoring right away with Brighton and Milan, episodes make the difference in this sport. Sometimes you score and it also changes the mental atmosphere of your opponents. This time it went exactly the opposite way.”

“In the return leg we must be strong, focused and fast. They are a physically well built team with many very powerful and fast players. Going there and playing a good game will be tough, also because in counterattack and one-on-one they are a dangerous team.”
