According to Globo, Corinthians continue to monitor Rodrigo Garro closely after the midfielder’s recent return from injury. Though Garro has been back in training since late May, the medical staff remains cautious due to the Argentine’s previous right knee problem. Physical coach Reverson Pimentel explained this week that Garro undergoes individual assessments and workload adjustments to ensure he remains pain-free and available for match selection. “He needs continuous individual attention,” said Pimentel. “We manage his training load and focus on strengthening his muscles to keep him out of discomfort. He’s training at good intensity and participating in all drills, but will need extra care through his recovery and as fixtures become more frequent.”
Pimentel emphasized that the main objective is to restore Garro’s early-season form while minimizing the risk of recurrence. This tailored approach is set to continue as Corinthians navigate a busy stretch of the calendar. According to fellow fitness coach Celso Rezende, the fixture break proved a key opportunity to not only focus on Garro but to improve the overall physical, technical, and tactical condition of the squad, especially with the recent coaching changes disrupting routines.
Meanwhile, the situation surrounding Yuri Alberto is encouraging but more uncertain. The striker, sidelined by an L1 vertebra fracture in late May, has made notable progress in his rehabilitation. He has already returned to light activity on the training pitch and is considered ahead of initial projections for his recovery. Pimentel noted that the medical team managed to “reduce the expected layoff by 30 to 40 percent,” crediting Alberto’s dedication and the staff’s careful management.
However, no official return date has been set, and the staff are reluctant to rush the centre-forward back into full action. Alberto has yet to receive clearance for contact training with the group, but his recovery trajectory points to a comeback earlier than originally forecast. “We’ll make every effort to see him back for a match as important as the Derby,” said Rezende, referring to the upcoming Copa do Brasil round-of-16 tie against Palmeiras at the end of July. Still, the next league match against Red Bull Bragantino on July 13 may be too soon.
Adjusting to the coaching change from Ramón Díaz to Dorival Júnior, the fitness staff highlighted that the break has allowed them to better adapt training methodologies, aiming to minimize injury risk as competition resumes.
The club’s cautious and individualized strategies with both Garro and Yuri Alberto underscore Corinthians’ intent to avoid further setbacks as they approach a challenging run of fixtures.
