New signing Rayan Cherki believes he and Manchester City are made for each other.

The 21-year-old prodigious French talent agreed a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, keeping him at the Club until 2030.

It’s just the latest step in a sparkling, fledgling career for the attacking midfielder, who has already played 185 times for Lyon and made his senior international debut for France last week.

Having watched from afar as City have swept up trophies galore since Pep Guardiola arrived in 2016, Cherki is now thrilled to be part of our future.

And he believes his style of exciting, attacking football will be tailor made for City.

“I’m very excited to play for Manchester City. It’s the biggest club in Europe,” he said in his first interview as a City player.

“I love the style of play, it’s very important for me.

“It’s my choice and I think it’s the best choice for my career because Manchester City are the best for me.”

Cherki also made no secret of the fact that playing for Guardiola was a major incentive to move to Manchester.

“For me, he’s the best coach in the world and I think he’s the best coach in history,” he said.

“I am passionate to play for him!”

A genuinely two-footed creative talent, Cherki has been one of the standout players in Ligue 1 since becoming a regular with Lyon in 2022/23.

He provided the joint-most assists in the French top tier last term and was one of just two men outside of Paris Saint-Germain to feature in the league’s Team of the Season.

As well as contributing significantly in the final third, Cherki wants to entertain.

He also says he’s ready to do whatever the team requires.

“My style is easy. I love to play with the ball, to do skills and I love to help my team-mates,” he stated.

“I am here to make people happy and this is very important to me.

“I prefer to play No.10 but right now I just want to play. Where I am on the pitch is not important, I just want to be on the pitch and help the team to win.

“I am ready.”
