Arsenal hope to have a deal for Brentford captain Christian Norgaard wrapped up by the weekend.
The Gunners have moved quickly for Norgaard, tabling a £9.3million bid on Wednesday, and Brentford are prepared to accept the midfielder’s desire to play Champions League football.
Personal terms have already been agreed and a medical scheduled, with Norgaard set to replace Jorginho, who has departed for Flamengo, and Thomas Partey, whose Arsenal contract is due to expire at the end of the month.
Norgaard will add experience and leadership to Arsenal, joining Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi in bolstering the Gunners' ranks in the centre of the park.
Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is also poised to arrive from Chelsea after a season spent on loan at Bournemouth, replacing Neto as the primary back-up for No1 David Raya.
Norgaard, who signed a new two-year contract at Brentford in March, stayed at the Gtech Community Stadium last summer amid interest from Liverpool and Chelsea as he felt indebted to now departed head coach Thomas Frank.
Now, however, with Frank at Tottenham, Norgaard is keen to pursue a move away from Brentford, with the club happy to respect his loyalty after six years in west London.
The former Fiorentina star enjoyed his best season in a Brentford shirt last term, making 34 appearances in the Premier League and scoring five goals. He had also been linked with a reunion with Frank at Tottenham.
Norgaard, who has been in Denmark this week as his wife gives birth, is set to join compatriot Frank and Bryan Mbeumo, whose move to Manchester United is imminent, in leaving Brentford this summer.
With their head coach, star forward and captain all leaving, Brentford are in a precarious position heading into their fifth successive season in the Premier League.
They look set to finalise the appointment of Keith Andrews as their new head coach, promoting the 44-year-old from within after a season spent overseeing set-pieces.
