Bees want add-ons to make total deal worth more than Red Devils paying Wolves for Matheus Cunha
Brentford remain hopeful of securing a fee in the region of £63million for Bryan Mbeumo in an attempt to eclipse what Manchester United paid for Matheus Cunha.
As Standard Sport reported earlier this week, United will pay an up-front fee of £55m for Mbeumo. However, the two clubs remain locked in negotiations over the size and achievability of the add-ons included in the deal.
Talks have taken place this week over the nature of those add-ons, with Brentford wanting more than £7m in order to take them past the fee Wolves will receive for Brazilian forward Cunha.
Mbeumo is set to earn up to £200,000 a week at Old Trafford, a sizeable increase on what he currently earns at Brentford. He'll become the second signing of Ruben Amorim's first summer in charge at United.
Mbeumo joined Brentford in 2019 from Ligue 2 side Troyes for a then club-record fee of £5.8m and helped them secure promotion to the Premier League in his second season at the club.
The Cameroonian, who's valued at £65m by Brentford, is set to land the club a huge profit, becoming their record departure in the process - surpassing the £40m fee they received for striker Ivan Toney last summer.
Mbeumo has enjoyed a steady rise during his four years in the Premier League but took his performances to another level last season, netting 20 goals and providing a further eight assists as Brentford finished 10th.
United need a winger this summer, with the futures of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony increasingly uncertain.
Mbeumo fits their profile, with the club targeting players with Premier League experience to help Amorim in his first full season in charge.
This summer is viewed as the perfect time for Mbeumo to part ways with Brentford, with the club in a strong bargaining position - they hold the option to extend Mbeumo's contract, which expires next June, by an additional year - and Mbeumo at his peak market value.
Mbeumo's departure is set to be the start of a wider exodus at Brentford following the departure of long-serving head coach Thomas Frank to Tottenham.
Captain Christian Norgaard is close to sealing a move to Arsenal, with a deal expected to be finalised by the weekend.
Brentford have prepared for Mbeumo to leave for some time and will receive a fee that reflects his talent.
His departure, though, signals a more worrying trend, with several key players now unsure of their futures at Brentford as they enter a new era post-Frank.
