Striker pair are in a race to feature again this season
Enzo Maresca has revealed Chelsea are still sweating on the fitness of Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu ahead of Sunday’s final-day showdown with Nottingham Forest.
Chelsea will still be without the suspended Nicolas Jackson at the City Ground and having a recognised striker available would be a boost for the Blues, who need to win to secure a top-five finish and seal Champions League qualification.
Nkunku has been out for over a month with an unspecified injury, while Guiu has been out since February with a hamstring issue.
Providing an update on Nkunku and Guiu on Tuesday, Maresca said: “Marc and Christo at the moment start to take part in sessions but they are both not 100 per cent.”
Jackson is banned for the Forest game following his red card at Newcastle.
Without Jackson against Manchester United on Friday, 19-year-old Tyrique George led the line as Chelsea won 1-0 at Stamford Bridge to keep them on course for the Champions League.
Maresca also confirmed Filip Jorgensen will start in goal for Chelsea in the Conference League final against Real Betis next week.
“Filip is going to play the final because he played in all of the competition,” said Maresca. “It will be unfair now if he doesn't play the final. For sure, Filip is going to play because he deserves to play.”
He added: “For each game, we try to play our strongest XI. In the Conference League, we have played with different players and we will see for the final.”
