Chelsea could use Carney Chukwuemeka as a makeweight in a deal to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig.
Chukwuemeka is free to leave Chelsea on a permanent deal this summer after spending the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund. The German side had been keen to extend that loan, but Chelsea are looking for a permanent sale.
Chukwuemeka could now be involved in a potential swap-deal involving Simons. Chelsea are in negotiations with Simons over a transfer to Stamford Bridge, with discussions having taken place over personal terms.
Leipzig also hold an interest in Chukwuemeka and Sky Germany are reporting that talks between the Bundesliga side and midfielder have taken place. Further discussions are due to take place on Wednesday.
Leipzig’s interest in Chukwuemeka could help facilitate Simons’ transfer to Chelsea. The Germans are demanding a fee of around €65m (£56m) for the Dutch international and the inclusion of Chukwuemeka could reduce the total package.
Chukwumeka signed for Chelsea from Aston Villa in a £20m deal in 2022 but has been unable to break into the club’s plans. He has started just four Premier League games for the Blues and is open to an exit in search of first-team football.
