Charlton Athletic are among the clubs in the mix to sign Ethan Galbraith from Leyton Orient this summer.

It was reported by The Standard earlier this week that the Addicks had a £1.5 million offer rejected by the League One side.

However, according to journalist Alan Nixon, the London outfit face competition from Huddersfield Town amid suggestions a £2.5 million bid has been submitted.

Galbraith made 39 League One appearances for the O’s last season as they finished sixth in the table, missing out on promotion with a play-off final loss to Charlton.

When asked about Huddersfield’s interest in Galbraith, FLW’s Charlton fan pundit Sam White claimed he is unsure of how strong the Terriers’ interest really is.

He believes the versatile midfielder is a quality player, but has urged the club to avoid spending more than £1.5 million on him given his contract situation and lack of Championship experience.

“Personally, I don’t really believe the bid that’s come in from Huddersfield,” White told Football League World.

“Obviously, they’re spending quite a bit of money this summer, but I think they’re probably being used by Orient or an agent to flush out more offers and probably push Charlton into making a more improved bid.

“I would be keen to avoid spending more than probably £1.5 million, just because he is inexperienced above League One.

“There’s no doubting that he’s good quality, and they’ve obviously watched him well this season.

“But I think there’s a lot of posturing and gameplay being done before any kind of deal gets done. If anything, I think it will be a deal that happens late on in the window.

“I’m amazed that clubs are supposedly offering over £2 million, considering he’s out of contract next season, and therefore could go on a free.”

Galbraith contributed six goals and six assists in League One for Leyton Orient last season.

Galbraith would be a good signing for Charlton

Charlton will need to bolster their squad this summer ahead of their Championship return.

If the Addicks have already gone as high as £1.5 million, then a £2 million bid could be worth their while, as manager Nathan Jones has earned the right to be backed in the transfer market.

Whilst it's true that Galbraith has no Championship experience, he did stand out in Richie Wellens’ side last season, and could now be ready to make that jump.

There is no doubt that Charlton are a more attractive proposition than Huddersfield right now due to being able to offer second division football, but they will have to compete financially to have any chance of winning the signature of the Manchester United academy graduate.
