Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo says he wants to become one of the best midfielders in the world, and rejected the claim that he is already at that level.
The Ecuadorian has played for Chelsea for two full seasons now after making the £115 million move from Brighton back in 2023.
He endured an underwhelming start to life at the club but has since become a crucial player for the Blues, helping them to qualify for Champions League football last season.
And while many might already class him among the best midfielders in the world, Caicedo himself believes he still has a way to go.
“I don’t think that (I’m one of the best),” he said.
“I am working on that. I want to become one of the best midfielders in the world but I am too far right now. I want to be one of the best but think I am too far. I am working hard every day and want to show it on the pitch.
“I want to talk on the pitch, showing my great football and then people can talk about me. People always talk when you are doing well. Even when they say bad things, I don’t care because I just want to help my team and I focus on that.”
The 23-year-old has also been a vital player for Chelsea in their run to the Club World Cup final, and he now hopes they can seal it by winning another piece of silverware having already won the Conference League trophy.
“I am looking forward to the game,” he said. “To be honest, I am focused on here. We want to win this tournament.”
Caicedo went off injured in the semi-final win over Fluminense after twisting his ankle but was involved in training ahead of the game.
The Blues will likely need their star midfielder if they are to have any chance of beating PSG, who beat Real Madrid 4-0 to book their place in Sunday’s final.
