Julian Ryerson and Norway pipped Marcel Sabitzer and Norway to clinch UEFA Nations League promotion, while Ramy Bensebaini helped Algeria earn an emphatic win on Sunday.
A crucial day in the UEFA Nations League saw Erling Haaland lead Norway to promotion to League A. The former Borussia Dortmund striker netted a hat-trick to fire his side to a comfortable 5-0 win over Kazakhastan on Sunday evening. Alexander Sørloth and RB Leipzig's Antonio Nusa were also on target for Norway, while BVB full-back Julian Ryerson had another solid game at left-back.
In the same group, Austria missed out on securing automatic promotion as they could only manage a 1-1 draw against Slovenia. Marcel Sabitzer returned to the Austria starting XI on Sunday, but could not prevent them from dropping crucial points as they were pipped by Norway.
Werder Bremen's Romano Schmid opened the scoring for Austria in the first-half, only for Adam Gnezda Čerin to help Slovenia earn a share of the spoils.
Austria will now have to go through the playoffs route in order to secure their promotion to the League A of the UEFA Nations League. The playoffs will take place in March, and will see Austria take on one of the third placed teams from League A.
In the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Ramy Bensebaini managed to shake off an injury scare as he helped Algeria claim an impressive 5-1 win over Liberia. Riyad Mahrez starred for Algeria as they concluded their qualifying campaign with a big win. Algeria are one of the 24 teams that will take part in the tournament that will take place from December 2025 to January 2026.
