Borussia Dortmund demand apology from Jadon Sancho critics | OneFootball

Borussia Dortmund demanded an apology from every football fan who has criticised Jadon Sancho in recent years after he impressed in their Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.

The England international produced arguably his best performance since returning to Dortmund on loan after a disappointing spell at Manchester United.

Sancho completed 12 dribbles against PSG, with only Lionel Messi managing more during a Champions League semi-final against Man Utd back in 2008.

Spotting the chance to get some quality engagement on social media, Dortmund insisted fans who have critiqued the 24-year-old must now show some contrition.

A post-game post from BVB's account reads: "You all owe him an apology, we were ALWAYS familiar with his game."

Their knowledge of Sancho's ability was clearly displayed during the monotonous transfer saga that played out between Dortmund and Man Utd before he eventually signed for the Red Devils in 2021 for £73m.

However, after racking up bucket-loads of goals and assists at Signal Iduna Park, Sancho struggled for consistency during his first two seasons at Old Trafford and only featured in three Man Utd matches in 2023/24 before falling out with manager Erik ten Hag.

The winger was left out of the squad for the 3-1 loss at Arsenal back in September and reacted publicly when Ten Hag revealed he was omitted for poor performances in training, claiming he had been made a 'scapegoat' for United's struggles.

Whether manager Ten Hag will still be in charge next season remains to be seen. Man Utd sit sixth in the Premier League, having picked up 54 points from 34 games with 12 defeats so far.

They were also disappointing in their brief return to the Champions League, finishing dead last in Group A behind Bayern Munich, Copenhagen and Galatasaray. They conceded 15 goals in their six games - only Royal Antwerp (17) let in more.

Dortmund currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga but that position will be enough to qualify for Europe's top-tier competition thanks to Germany's high UEFA coefficient score.
