Tyrhys Dolan would be a positive addition for Birmingham City as they look to make it back-to-back promotions.

Birmingham City are back in the Championship, but it’s fair to say they have a different starting point to your average newly-promoted side.

After remarkable investment from their US ownership group last year, Blues have a squad that many feel is packed full of quality by second tier standards.

The likes of Christoph Klarer, Tomoki Iwata and Jay Stansfield are expected to be standout performers, and there are many other members of the squad who will hope to flourish next season.

Birmingham City need attacking options out wide

Given the resources at St. Andrew’s, there will be a feeling that Chris Davies’ side can go again, replicating the likes of Ipswich and Norwich who have recorded successive promotions in the past.

Obviously, that will be a tall order, but that’s the objective, and even though Birmingham have a talented squad, they still need new additions to take that next step.

And, many observers would agree that attacking reinforcements are required - with new wingers sure to be a priority for Davies and the recruitment team.

Tyrhys Dolan could improve Birmingham City’s XI

That will force Birmingham to look elsewhere, and Tyrhys Dolan is a player who should be on their radar.

The Blackburn man is out of contract this summer, although a fee would be required due to his age, and he is another winger who is believed to be a target for Rangers, along with their bitter rivals Celtic.

Dolan, who can play down either flank, has just enjoyed his best season as a professional, scoring seven goals and registering six assists.

Whilst they may not be the most eye-catching numbers, they don’t tell the whole story.

The 23-year-old is a constant threat with his pace and direct style, and his hardworking approach would endear him to the Blues faithful.

There’s also reason to think he could thrive in a more attack-minded setup. Dolan’s productivity last season came with a Blackburn side that weren’t the most adventurous.

Rovers deserve huge credit for overachieving by finishing eighth, but John Eustace and Valerien Ismael are two managers who favour a counter-attacking style.

At Birmingham, it would be different, as Davies’ side will look to dominate possession, the wingers will play higher, and it’s natural to presume they will get more opportunities as a result.

Furthermore, Dolan is a player who has huge room for development. At 23, he is nowhere near his peak, and he will have a hunger and desire to kick-on in his career, which is exactly the profile of player Blues should be targeting.
