Arsenal’s midfield rebuild is gathering pace, and the latest name linked with a move to North London is none other than Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich. According to Sky Germany, the Gunners are interested in signing the Germany international, who will be out of contract in the summer and is now free to negotiate with clubs outside the Bundesliga.
Bayern Munich are still in talks over a new deal for Kimmich, but with no agreement yet, speculation continues to swirl. Arsenal, for their part, have remained tight-lipped on reports of discussions with the player’s representatives.

Midfield reinforcements are expected to be a priority for Mikel Arteta, with both Thomas Partey and Jorginho set to depart at the end of the season. That context makes Kimmich’s availability all the more intriguing.
It is understood that Arsenal are closing in on Martin Zubimendi, the highly-rated Spanish midfielder from Real Sociedad. While adding another midfield signing beyond Zubimendi cannot be ruled out, the club is also assessing options already within their squad.
If Kimmich were to arrive alongside Zubimendi, it would mark a major statement of intent. “He has produced nine assists in all competitions so far, and that number is not unusual,” the report highlights, underlining his creative capabilities.
Kimmich is not just a metronomic passer; he is also an intelligent and incisive operator, both on and off the ball. His set-piece prowess, ability to dictate play from deep, and experience at the highest level make him an attractive prospect.

Arsenal fans will recall his brilliance first-hand, particularly from last season’s Champions League quarter-final. Kimmich not only scored the decisive goal against the Gunners at the Allianz Arena but also dominated the midfield, creating more chances than any other player that night.
His versatility is another key asset. Pep Guardiola, during his time at Bayern, famously used Kimmich across multiple positions, including centre-back. Yet, at Arsenal, he would likely slot in as the deep-lying orchestrator, shielding the defence while unlocking deep blocks with his pinpoint passing.
With Kimmich potentially available on a free transfer, Arsenal would be wise to explore this further. However, competition for his signature is expected to be fierce.
There is an air of excitement surrounding the potential arrival of Joshua Kimmich. Arsenal’s midfield has long needed a world-class conductor, and landing a player of Kimmich’s pedigree without a transfer fee could be a game-changer.
Fans have been calling for elite-level experience in key positions, especially with Jorginho and Partey set to exit. Kimmich, with his Bundesliga and Champions League-winning experience, is the exact profile needed.
However, some concerns remain. Would Kimmich, at 29, be the right fit for Arsenal’s long-term project? His wages will be significant, and with multiple top clubs likely to compete for his signature, Arsenal must move decisively.
If the Gunners can pair Kimmich with Zubimendi, they would possess one of Europe’s most technically gifted midfield setups. The question is – will they seize this opportunity?
