Alphonso Davies was one of the players who were in focus this week as Real Madrid locked horns with Bayern Munich.

The young fullback also produced an excellent display on the flanks, notably scoring a blinder in the second half that momentarily titled the game in Bayern’s favour.

Many thought Davies’ performance on the night may reinforce Real Madrid’s interest in the player, as the club look to beef up its options in the left-back unit.

Bayern Munich not optimistic about Davies

Transfer export Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on Davies’ situation, suggesting that Bayern Munich are not ‘optimistic’ about the defender’s contract renewal.

This comes on the back of Davies’ earlier confirmation that he is negotiating a new deal at Bayern. Romano, to that end, confirms that Bayern are indeed waiting for the defender to respond to their contract offer.

But the Bavarians are not very optimistic Davies will accept the offer, especially amid interest from Real Madrid. The defender was spotted speaking to Carlo Ancelotti last night, though that shouldn’t be seen as any indicator.

Real Madrid’s plan with Davies

It must be noted that Davies’ move to Santiago Bernabeu will only come to fruition if Real Madrid, too, agree to meet Bayern’s demands.

That could prove to be a challenge. As per Romano, Real Madrid have no plans to pay Bayern’s desired €50-70 million for Davies.

The club will only explore the opportunity to sign the left-back if Bayern agree to negotiate for a lower fee.

The Spanish giants will have some leverage, considering the fact that Davies’ ongoing deal expires at the end of next season. Hence, it will be interesting to see how things transpire in the coming weeks.
