Tottenham concluded their pre-season preparations with a 4-0 loss to Bayern Munich.

A first defeat of pre-season will be a wake-up call for Spurs head coach Thomas Frank, who saw his previously rigid defence struggle to clear their lines time and again.

Spurs are next in action against Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain in next week’s UEFA Super Cup.

Harry Kane opened the scoring in the first half, sweeping home Michael Olise’s deep cross from inside the area. Replays showed the former Spurs striker was offside, but the goal stood due to the absence of VAR.

Kane could, and should, have added a second just two minutes later when Bayern were awarded a penalty. Joao Palhinha making his debut for Spurs, gave away a reckless foul, but Kane did not capitalise as his striker blazed over the bar.

Bayern had plenty of chances to score before half-time, but it was not until Kingsley Coman’s fine curling effort on the hour mark before they made sure of their advantage.

A host of changes soon followed, and Bayern’s eager youngsters made an impact.

Just six minutes after coming on, 17-year-old Lennart Karl swept home a beautiful curling effort from the edge of the area, and then Wisdom Mike did even better from a tighter angle to confirm a pre-season thumping.
