FC Bayern is still struggling to find a coach for the new season. The Munich management apparently asked Julen Lopetegui again, but the Spaniard cancelled.

In the search for a new coach, FC Bayern apparently tried again today, Monday, with Julen Lopetegui. According to information from The Athletic, the Bayern bosses enquired with the Spanish coach, but Lopetegui has already reached an agreement with West Ham United from the English Premier League, according to consistent media reports. He will succeed David Moyes, who will leave the Hammers after the season.

According to information from Sky, Bayern had already enquired about Lopetegui’s availability last week. However, the Süddeutsche Zeitung had already reported that Lopetegui was not keen on the Bayern job.

Lopetegui has coached Real Madrid and Sevilla, among others

The 57-year-old most recently coached Wolverhampton Wanderers in England. During his last stint in professional football at Wolverhampton, he complained publicly on several occasions during pre-season about the club’s lack of new signings, and a few days before the start of the season, the club and Lopetegui agreed to terminate their contract in August 2023.

Lopetegui previously coached Sevilla FC, Real Madrid, FC Porto and the Spanish national team, among others. He became European champion with the Spanish U19s in 2012 and again a year later with the country’s U21s. Lopetegui won the Europa League with Sevilla in 2020.

In their search for a coach for the coming season, the FCB bosses had already received rejections from Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick. They were also rumoured to have been interested in Roger Schmidt, but the German coach publicly and unequivocally committed to his current club Benfica Lisbon.
