Barcelona have been dealt a blow in their preparations for Wednesday’s Copa del Rey semi-final second leg with Real Madrid after midfielder Frenkie de Jong didn’t take part in full training with his team-mates on Tuesday.
De Jong is currently suffering from a knee injury and was forced to miss Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Elche, but there was hope that the Dutch international would be fit in time for El Clásico.
However, the 25-year-old was notable by his absence from training footage on Tuesday, suggesting he will not be available for Wednesday’s clash at Camp Nou.
As well as De Jong, the Blaugrana are expected to be without Pedri, Ousmane Dembélé and Andreas Christensen for the semi-final second leg, which they lead 1-0 from the first leg back in early March.
Coach Xavi may be forced to deploy central defender Eric García in midfield again, as he did against Elche at the weekend.
